{"id":7156,"date":"2023-03-06T01:30:24","date_gmt":"2023-03-06T01:30:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/54.200.81.140\/?p=7156"},"modified":"2023-03-06T01:30:24","modified_gmt":"2023-03-06T01:30:24","slug":"the-quality-of-white-light-application-print-viewing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/truhu.app\/blog\/the-quality-of-white-light-application-print-viewing\/","title":{"rendered":"The Quality of White Light"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">(Application \u2013 Print Viewing)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a variety of ways to evaluate the quality of white light.\u00a0 One is Color Temperature, which is one of the parameters you can set for your display with TruHu andone which I discuss <a href=\"https:\/\/truhu.app\/blog\/what-color-temperature-bulbs-should-i-use\/\" title=\"\">in a separate blog post<\/a>.\u00a0 But color temperature doesn\u2019t tell the whole story.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is possible to get a more complete assessment of white light by looking at its <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Spectral_power_distribution\">Spectral Power Distribution<\/a> (SPD), which is simply the spectral curve for a given light source. &nbsp; Below are some examples of SPDs for Daylight and a Fluorescent light.&nbsp; What\u2019s notable is how \u201cspiky\u201d the fluorescent light is.&nbsp; These two light sources could have the same color temperature, but depending upon the contents of your viewing object \/ print, will not appear the same to your eye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"624\" height=\"277\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/Jhh1mxHUabH8wIDh1r7IjlSBjfUo4-W4YZ1fWWLeR3SdzklbVHofGbUw2ccPsEEvrJ4OZTgS3wM0wAfisCsLL1eTzuEdAsCYiueoiHau32jdM-7JShg4VgCzqxz6ajf4Edw9nDNvvTmOHOs6q128Ux0\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Color researchers have attempted to quantify the consistency of a light source across the entire visible spectrum \u2013 basically, how \u201cnon-spiky\u201d the light is \u2013 and call this the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Color_rendering_index\">Color Rendering Index<\/a> (CRI).&nbsp; The maximum \/ best CRI value is 100.&nbsp; Here are some typical CRI values for common light sources:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Sunlight \u2013 100<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tungsten \u2013 100<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Viewing Booth Fluorescent \u2013 95+<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>LED \u2013 80-90<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Typical Fluorescent \u2013 80-87<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Bottom line \u2013 if you are purchasing bulbs for viewing print, make sure they have a decent CRI, 90+.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What goes into the quality of white light?
